Smart Casual Attire
Smart Casual
Relaxed but put-together — a step above everyday wear, but no need for a suit or formal dress. Think stylish basics that feel comfortable for a Friday evening out.
Men: chinos or dark jeans, button-down or polo shirt, optional blazer, loafers or clean sneakers
Women: blouse + trousers, midi skirt, tailored jumpsuit, or a smart casual top with slacks — any comfortable, polished look works

Saturday, Sep 12

Wedding Ceremony & Reception · Ceremony begins promptly at 6:00 PM

Birch Aquarium · 2300 Expedition Way, La Jolla

Witness us exchange vows and celebrate our love as the sun sets over the Pacific. Our outdoor ceremony will be followed by an open bar, dinner, dancing and free range of the aquarium!

Semi-Formal Attire
Semi-Formal
A dressed-up evening look — think cocktail or dressy attire. This is a beautiful outdoor setting at sunset, so feel free to lean into something that photographs well!
Men: suit or sport coat with dress trousers, tie optional, dress shoes
Women: cocktail dress, midi or maxi dress, dressy jumpsuit or pantsuit — heels, wedges, or elegant flats all work on the terrace

Free on-site parking is available at both locations. Transportation will not be provided.
Both venues are wheelchair accessible and ADA compliant.

Travel

The Birch Aquarium is located in scenic La Jolla, about 12 miles north of downtown San Diego.

Flying In

San Diego International Airport (SAN) is the closest airport to the venue, and the most convenient for guests traveling from outside the region.

Getting Around

We recommend a rental car for traveling guests. Rideshare options like Uber and Lyft are also readily available throughout the San Diego area, and are a great option for transportation to the venue. There is free parking at both AleSmith and Birch Aquarium.

Stay

San Diego has many hotel and Airbnb options. We're happy to assist guests with personalized recommendations.

If you'd like to stay close to the wedding venue, we recommend booking accommodations in La Jolla or the University City area.

Exploring San Diego

If you're planning to explore San Diego or extend your stay, we'd recommend booking in the following neighborhoods:

La Jolla

Closest to the venue

La Jolla & University City

La Jolla offers walkable bluffs, upscale shopping, ocean activities, and a distinctly Southern California feel. Home to the famous La Jolla Cove sea lions!

Del Mar, Coronado, & Mission Beach

Beach towns

Del Mar, Coronado, & Mission Beach

These seaside communities are always a hit with visitors. Great options for those who are extending their stay and want easy ocean access.

Little Italy

Downtown & easy airport access

Little Italy

A vibrant downtown neighborhood with some of the city's best restaurants and a fabulous Saturday farmer's market. Conveniently located near San Diego Bay and the airport.

Mission Valley

Budget-friendly & centrally located

Mission Valley

Further inland, Mission Valley is centrally located and offers hotel accommodations for all budgets. We know San Diego can be expensive and have coordinated a block rate at the Crowne Plaza hotel, accessible here.

Hillcrest & North Park

Uptown & LGBTQ+

Hillcrest & North Park

The heart of the LGBTQ+ community, Hillcrest and North Park are two of the city's trendiest and most walkable neighborhoods with plentiful bars, restaurants, and easy access to iconic Balboa Park. Dan and Clay's favorite area for weekend evenings out!
